LVP Flooring

Luxury vinyl plank installed over a properly prepared subfloor, with seams and transitions cut to fit the room.

LVP looks simple once it is down, but the work that makes it lie flat and stay flat happens before a single plank gets clicked into place. We start by checking the subfloor for flatness and moisture, because vinyl telegraphs every dip and bump underneath it. Low spots get patched, high spots get ground down, and if the moisture reading is off we deal with that before anything else goes on the floor.

From there it is layout. A straight lay runs boards down the length of the room for a clean, simple look. Herringbone takes longer and needs a tighter subfloor tolerance, since the angled cuts show any unevenness fast. Either way we leave the expansion gap at the walls that vinyl needs, because DMV summers and winters swing enough in humidity to make planks grow and shrink over the year. Skip that gap and you get buckling at the edges or planks that pop apart at the seams a season later.

We cut around cabinets, door jambs, and floor vents so the finished floor looks like it was built for the room, not fitted into it after the fact.

LVP Flooring questions

Can LVP go directly over my existing tile?

Often yes, as long as the tile is flat and stable and the grout lines are not too deep. If the tile is cracked or uneven we will need to address that first so it does not show through the vinyl.

Do I really need underlayment?

Most LVP needs some form of underlayment for sound and comfort underfoot, though the type depends on your subfloor. Concrete slabs usually need a different underlayment than a plywood subfloor.

How soon can I walk on the new floor?

You can generally walk on it carefully once installation is finished, but we will let you know if the adhesive or subfloor prep needs extra time to set before furniture goes back.

What kinds of floors do you install?

LVP, nail-down and glue-down wood flooring, and wood stairs. If it is a type of flooring, ask us about it.

Where do you work?

We install floors across DC, Maryland, Virginia.
