Wood Stairs in the DMV
Wood Stairs
Treads and risers fitted to your existing staircase so the stairs match the wood or LVP floor running into them.
No two staircases are built exactly the same, even within the same house, so the first real step on this job is measuring every single tread and riser rather than assuming they match. Once we have those measurements we remove the old carpet, tile, or worn treads and check the stringers underneath for any repairs needed before new wood goes on.
Each tread and riser is then cut to fit its own step, with the nosing overhang set to match the floor it runs into so the transition at the top of the stairs looks intentional instead of pieced together. We secure everything with glue and mechanical fasteners rather than nails alone, since nail-only stairs are one of the most common sources of the squeak that shows up six months after an install.
Matching the stain and species to your existing floor is usually the part homeowners care about most, and it is worth getting an exact sample checked in your own lighting before the job starts, since stain colors can read differently under stairwell light than they do on a flat floor.
Wood Stairs questions
Can you match the new stairs exactly to my existing floor?
We match species, stain, and finish as closely as possible, and we will check the color against a sample in your stairwell lighting before committing, since light in a stairwell can make the same stain look different than it does on the flat floor.
Why do my stairs squeak even though the floor upstairs is quiet?
Stairs take more stress with every step and nail-only construction tends to work loose over time. Fastening treads and risers with both glue and mechanical fasteners cuts down on that movement significantly.
How long until the stairs are usable after installation?
That depends on the finish used and how it needs to cure, and we will walk you through the timing for your specific job before we start so you know what to expect.
What kinds of floors do you install?
LVP, nail-down and glue-down wood flooring, and wood stairs. If it is a type of flooring, ask us about it.
Where do you work?
We install floors across DC, Maryland, Virginia.
